I live right off of the highway where the truck drove into the crowd (not through people thankfully but braking because it was unexpected I guess). I was out in the crowd and it was pretty much pure chaos because everyone thought others had just been run over. We had about 75-100 arrests right outside of our building after curfew and we watched the whole thing go down. Stay safe! There’s no arguing that what the officer did was in any way justified. It almost seems that we’ve reached a tipping point after years and years of witnessing the mistreatment of minority populations. Typically, I’m back in Switzerland this time of year, but I won’t go back yet due to the virus. The protests are starting out peaceful. Almost every time, the only reason they turn violent is that the POLICE escalate the situation. That was the point I was making. If you look at the protests that haven’t turned violent, the cops aren’t starting the violence in those circumstances. More or less, only when the cops respond with disproportionate violence to peaceful protests do the protesters turn violent.
